Personal Life

Wallace Johnson Gumbley was born in the All-Saints area of Birmingham in 1867 to James and Ellen Gumbley, James being a Cycle Lamp manufacturer.

In 1898, Wallace married Mary Ann Bellamy of Wednesfield at Coventry and they had two daughters—Mary Ellen in 1898 and Florence Emily in 1900.

Some time between 1901 and 1911, Wallace, Mary Ann, and their two children came to Wednesfield to live, where Wallace established himself as a Beer-house Keeper at the Boat Inn in Church Street, where he stayed until his death

Wallace died in 1922, just a few months after the marriage of his eldest daughter, Mary Ellen to Benjamin Done, local Baker, Grocer & Confectioner of High Street, Wednesfield. Mary Ann lived on until 1948, at which time she was resident in Frederick Road.
