We’re pleased to share that Wednesfield Burial Ground Project is being supported through a Creative Communities commission by Creative Black Country. Creative Communities is an initiative to help co-create ideas relevant to your community and neighbourhoods. The commission will enable the Friends of Wednesfield Burial Ground and the wider community to create a unique, co-designed, creative display drawing inspiration from the burial ground.

The Friends of Wednesfield Burial Ground have been exploring what the site might once have looked like in all its grandeur through the creation of a Victorian Paper Theatre. Using layers of paper and card ephemera, we’ve reimagined the view from the original cemetery gates along the central driveway, leading to the long-lost mortuary chapel.
We will also be inviting the wider community to experiment with traditional stencil techniques inspired by the Minton encaustic tiles that would once have formed part of the chapel floor. Dates to be confirmed.
We’re grateful to Hands On Wednesfield and St Thomas’ Church for their support, and to Creative Black Country for their guidance and creative input, and for making this commission possible.
