The Wednesfield Burial Ground Project will be at Wednesfield Local History Day on Saturday 11 July, 10am–3.30pm at Bethany Chapel (on the corner of Blackwood Avenue and Lower Prestwood Road). There will be a history talk by Jackie Harrison about those interred at the burial ground and help on hand to research your family history.
The history fair is hosted by Wednesfield History Society with:

11am – The History of Long Knowle
Looking at early mentions of the name, the large houses associated with the area, and the people who lived there. (Gary Edwards)
12 noon – Bring Out Your Dead
Where did Wednesfield’s dearly departed end their days through the ages? How did those now gone reflect the history of the area? (Jackie Harrison)
1pm – The Colour Works
From Manders to BASF – Wednesfield was active in the development of industrial paints and varnishes. (Gary Edwards)
2pm – Tales of Wednesfield
Weird, wonderful and sometimes funny. How the press reported Wednesfield events in the past. (Jackie Harrison)

Part of Helmsley Lodge stood on the site of Bethany Chapel (the rest is on council-owned land). Sue and Gary Edwards have carefully excavated the footings of those parts that are accessible from the Chapel site. Come and have a look and share any memories you might have
