Friends of Wednesfield Burial Ground

A small group of volunteers have undertaken the task of befriending Wednesfield Burial Ground, documenting the remaining stones and unearthing the rich history of the site.

Marie Sewell
Marie is a visual storyteller with a passion for local history. With over 20 years’ experience helping arts and heritage organisations bring their projects to life, she combines her graphic design and accessibility expertise with her own deep-rooted connection to the site to engage the wider community in Wednesfield’s history.

Wednesfield History Society Research Team
Marie Sewell is being supported by four members of Wednesfield History Society:-  Gary Edwards, Sue Edwards, Hazel Keirle & Jackie Harrison. The support includes researching old maps, old newspapers, Wills and various other old documents. Genealogical investigation is being carried out—as far as the sources allow—on some of the burial ground’s ‘residents’ who were people of some substance in Wednesfield’s past.

Mike Rowledge
Known as ‘Wulfrunian’ on Find A Grave, Mike has significantly enhanced the historical record of Wednesfield New Burial Ground. Since 2013, his research has expanded from his own family genealogy to adding over 6,600 burial records to the site, correcting transcription errors, adding missing entries, photographing and carefully documenting stones and inscriptions. With contributions from collaborator Rob Dickens, Mike’s work is now an invaluable resource for anyone researching Wednesfield history. Read more…
